THE country needs to invest P500 billion annually for at least five years to revitalize the agriculture sector, Agriculture Secretary Francisco Tiu Laurel Jr. said, adding that this includes the budget for the National Irrigation Administration.

The proposed budget for the NIA is P19.4 billion for 2025, which is higher than the P17.2 billion it sought for 2024.

According to Laurel, the proposed budget for the agriculture sector is crucial for the country's food security, as it will be used to fund various programs and projects aimed at increasing agricultural productivity and improving the livelihoods of farmers and fisherfolk.
